Congress considers a stronger consumer protection law.(VENDING MARKET WATCH)

Congress is considering the most significant consumer safety legislation in many years as states and non-profit groups step up their watchdog efforts, according to The Wall Street Journal. A Senate bill under consideration would substantially boost fines, add staff and increase transparency at the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The moves represent efforts to address what consumer groups and critics see as the weakness and inefficiency of the commission, the federal agency charged with regulating at least 15,000 types of consumer products, from toys to all-terrain vehicles to mattresses.
