NW: Water restrictions inevitable - Carr
NSW Premier BOB CARR says mandatory water restrictions are inevitable in Sydney.
Water storage levels have dipped to 66 per cent in and around the Sydney basin andmandatory restrictions are normally brought in when levels reach 55 per cent.
But the government says compulsory restrictions may be introduced sooner.
Mr CARR says to effect the compulsory restrictions the government has to get localcouncil officers and the Environmental Protection Authority equipped to enforce it.
The premier has urged residents across the state to conserve water whether mandatoryrestrictions are introduced or not.
He says when mandatory restrictions come in, the government will still rely on thegoodwill of people to conserve water and make things easier in the Sydney basin.
