The first trial of a former Roman Catholic priest accused of sexually abusing dozens of children in three states ended Friday in his conviction of molesting a 15-year-old baby sitter in 1987.

The former sitter, now 21, wept as the verdict was announced in a courtroom crowded with some of the dozens of people who have accused James R. Porter of abusing them while he was a priest in Massachusetts, Minnesota and New Mexico.

"I got what I wanted," said the woman, who asked to be identified only by her first name, Sara. "I know he needs help. He's a sick man."
