Fed: Aussies in Haiti urged to leave

CANBERRA, Feb 24 AAP - Australians in the strife-torn Caribbean nation of Haiti were
today advised to leave immediately.

Armed rebels opposed to President Jean-Bertrand Aristide were in control of Haiti's
second largest city, Cap-Haitien, and were reported to have attacked two police stations
outside the capital Port-au-Prince.

Australia followed the lead of France, Mexico and the United States and urged its citizens
in Haiti to leave by any commercial means available.
