SA: Policing levels high in SA, minister says

ADELAIDE, Feb 18 AAP - South Australia enjoyed a high level of policing compared to
other states, the state government said today.

Police Minister Robert Brokenshire said according to 1998-99 figures SA had the third
highest police to population ratio in the country.

He said SA had 232 officers for every 100,000 residents compared to a national average
of 216, according to the Commonwealth's Productivity Commission report.

"SA also has a higher rate of police in service delivery positions and fewer than other
states in management or supervisory positions," Mr Brokenshire said.

"This means South Australians actually get more out of their police than people in other states."
